With the Flu season being in full force, it is important to keep yourself healthy and safe. The holidays are quickly approaching, and it is vital to keep yourself and family and friends safe from the flu. Here are a few tips to avoid catching and spreading the flu, so you can still enjoy the holidays with your friends and family.

1. Eat healthy foods

Food has a huge effect on how our body feels. Creating a healthy diet can help keep your body healthy in fighting the flu. It is important to create a diet that includes lots of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean protein, low-fat dairy, and healthy fats. A few examples can include broccoli, red peppers, sweet potatoes and fish.1

2. Take your vitamins

Vitamins are a very important aspect in keeping your body healthy. There are many vitamins that may be forgotten in our daily diet. A few vitamins that have been proven to help prevent the flu include: Vitamin A, C, D, E, Zinc and Omega 3. If you are not getting these vitamins from your diet, it is important to take supplements to ensure your body is getting the right amount of vitamins daily.1 Having a deficiency in any vitamins within your body can cause crucial damage to your immune system.

3. Stay active

During flu season, it is important to stay active. Working out regularly has been proven to help flush bacteria out of the lungs and airways. This can reduce the chances of catching the flu. The rise in body temperature during and after an exercise can help prevent bacteria from growing. This causes your body to better fight infections.2 Creating a consistent workout schedule will help in preventing the flu. It is important to try to do something active each day, such as taking a short walk.

4. Stay hydrated

When trying to stay healthy always remember to drink lots of water! It is important to ensure your body is getting the recommended amount of water each day. Water will help your body absorb vitamins, minerals and nutrients from your food. Keeping yourself hydrated  is an excellent way to fight off any illness. It is a great way to stay healthy and a very important habit to practice.

5. Get lots of rest

It is important to recharge your body when it is working hard to keep you healthy. Make sure you are getting the recommended 8 hours of sleep each night. This will ensure that your body feels energized and recharged. Letting your body recharge will help it have more energy in fighting off the flu.

If you do follow these tips and still find yourself feeling under the weather, it is important to take care of yourself. Make sure you avoid spreading the flu and try to keep it to yourself. Remember to stay hydrated, eat healthy and get lots of rest to help aid your body in fighting the flu.

We hope these tips will help you out,and remember to stay safe and healthy during this time of year.
