November is a great month to show appreciation to all of our nurses. This month marks a few special Nurses’ holidays that Starboard Medical loves to spotlight.

Medical Surgical Nurses week takes place from November 1-7th. The Medical Surgical Nursing Certification Board (MSNCB) partnered with The Academy of Medical Surgical Nurses to have a week honoring medical surgical nurses. Medical-Surgical Nurses work with a variety of medical issues to offer care to patients preparing for and recovering from surgery.1 They assess patients’ conditions, communicate with physicians and specialists, manage IV medications, respond to patients’ needs and complete many other tasks.

Operating room nurses and perioperative nurses are different terms to describe the same group of nurses. There are two holidays honoring this group of nurses in November, the operating room nurse day on November 14th and the perioperative nurse week from November 13-19th.

These nurses play a huge part in ensuring that operations run smoothly. They provide care to the patient before, during and after surgery. They work closely with surgeons and other healthcare professionals to aid in surgical procedures.2 They deal with monitoring patients after anesthesia, pain management, keeping patients comfortable, and being the source of communication between patients and their families.3

Starboard Medical loves to celebrate nurses’ holidays because we recognize the importance these nurses have on patient care.

Medical surgical nurses, operating room nurses, and perioperative nurses all specialize in different tasks to ensure patient safety before, during, and after surgical procedures. Starboard Medical loves showing our appreciation and are so happy to be spending this month honoring these nurses.
